MY VISION FOR THE
LEARNING COMMUNITY

The Learning Community, together with school districts and community organizations as partners, demonstrates, shares and implements more effective practices to measurably improve educational outcomes for children and families in poverty.

Our programs are:

  • Training participants in the workforce
  • Providing more quality, affordable childcare programs
  • Saving tax dollars by breaking the cycle of poverty

Closing the Gaps

Now, more than ever, student learning requires flexibility and future-thinking. Support tools like instructional coaches and access to vital resources ensures equity for all students and their families.

Building on Successes

The program models we have developed, test implemented and rigorously evaluated over the last 15 years are nationally recognized by as among the most innovative and effective in the nation in closing the educational opportunity gap.

Growing our Reach

We are beginning to build a 3rd learning campus that will serve Westside, Ralston, Papillion-La Vista, Millard and West OPS; districts that in the last decade saw low-income enrollment increases of 94% to 266%.

I will push for more sustainable impact by building consensus with school districts, colleges, local and state governments, businesses, and private philanthropy.

About the Learning Community

The Learning Community was created by a broad bi-partisan unicameral vote with the mission to close the academic opportunity gap between rich and poor students of all races.

About Mark

I am very proud to have the endorsement of OPS School Board Vice-President, Jane Erdenberger, despite being married to her for more than 45 years. I am the proud beneficiary of her accomplishments. I like to think of myself as the man behind the throne.

Jane and I have two accomplished grown daughters who each brought two young men into our family who are as good as can be reasonably expected. They each brought an outstanding “step” grandchild along who have now been joined by twin growing grandsons.
